The one, major success factor everyone wishes wasn’t; do you?

Question: If you were 99 miles into an important 200 mile journey and you were getting tired, would you turn back and walk home, or carry on your journey?

Don’t answer yet, answer in a moment…

1st consider this:

What one (rational) thing on someone’s CV would put you off hiring them?  I used to think personality.

I used to think passion. I used to think drive. Or lack of.

But 100’s of interviews & 1,000’s of CV’s have proven me wrong. And all the ‘passion and personality,’ stuff-fluff you read in Entrepreneurial books clouds over the reality.

The one, major success factor everyone wishes wasn’t is not turning back; not starting again.

Personality and passion often give you a quick-out-of-the-blocks head start but burnout, change of heart or boredom negate all the hard work. Snakes and ladders, back to the bottom (with personality and passion).

A career change on a CV every 12-24 months shows passion and personality only lasts that long.

And so will the next job. And the next.

Lots of ‘variety,’ but no success or longevity.

And then you’re 50, starting again, again.

So, of course you’d keep going if you were almost half way into a 200 mile journey.

You’d have wasted the 99 miles only to have to do another 99 miles only to have to start the 200 miles again.

And that’s what success is; carrying on. NOT starting again.

The hard times are the same for everyone else.

The boredom exists in everything else. The grass is greener everywhere else.

In 10, 20 or 50 years if you’re still doing it, you’ll be one of the very best at it. Success will be yours.
